Cecelia T. “Sis”' Hollern, 91, Altoona, died Saturday as a result of a car- pedestrian accident.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Weglowski) Bieniek. She married John Robert Hollern on June 10, 1952, at Ss. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1997.
Surviving are a sister, Joan Turcovski of Altoona; five sisters-in-law: Peggy Bieniek, Patricia Byrne, Kathleen DeAngelis, Joanne Siefert and Lynett Hollern; a brother-in-law, David “Butch” Hollern; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Julie Hanley, Helen Radwanski and Stephanie Lawruk; and two brothers: Walter and Stanley.
Sis was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired in 1983 as an Assembler-Tester from Sylvania.
Sis was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, the former Ss. Peter & Paul Rosary Society, Polish National Alliance, St. Hedwig's, AARP and the Sylvania Quarter Century Club. Sis was a devoted Altoona Curve and Pittsburgh Pirate Fan.
Sis enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and volunteering for the church fund raisers. She was an avid walker. Sis was considered the matriarch of the family.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013,at Our Lady Of Fatima Church, 12th Ave. and 20th St., Altoona, by Father James D. Zatalava. Committal will be at Ss. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery.
