GENEVIEVE ‘JENNIE' C. FONZI

Genevieve C. “Jennie” Fonzi, 85, Altoona, passed away Sunday morning at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late John and Mary (Sosnowski) Pufka. She married Anthony J. Fonzi on June 9, 1956, in Altoona, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1983.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Allen and husband, Bill, of Altoona; a son, Richard of Kernersville, N.C.; and three grandchildren: Megan Balwin and husband, Jim, and their daughter, Grace, Quinn Allen and Colin Allen.

She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; two sisters: Stella Kruis and Helen Pufka; and three brothers: Walter J., Frank and Joseph J.

Jennie retired as a registered nurse from Mercy Hospital/Bon Secours, where she worked in the operating room. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont. She liked to read, and she enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, Grace.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no service. A private inurnment will be at the convenience of the family at SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852.
