Mr. George William Greiner Jr., 80, of Altoona died peacefully Sunday morning at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late George W. and Susan M. (Sessler) Greiner Sr. He married Carolyn B. Kelley on May 23, 1959, in Altoona. She preceded him in death on April 29, 1998.
He is survived by a daughter, Carralee B. Franzwa of Altoona; a son, George W. Greiner III, with whom he resided; three grandchildren: Jon-Michael Morrison and Robert and Bryce Franzwa; and seven great- grandchildren. He was the last member of the immediate family.
Mr. Greiner was a life member of N.R.A., past member of the Hollidaysburg Sportsman and Bellwood sportsman and the Blair Game Fish and Forestry, and member of rails to trails.
He retired in 1996 as a straightener operator from Small Tubes Manufacturing with 23 and a half years of service.
George enjoyed hunting, reading and traveling.
He served in the U.S. Navy and the reserves as an engineman second class.
George was a 1953 graduate of Altoona High.
He was a member of the Providence Presbyterian Church, formerly the Broad Ave United Presbyterian Church.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, by Rev. Kathy Colebank officiating. Private inurnment will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
