Gladys Helen Kuiawa, 100, Hollidaysburg, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg with her family at her side.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late John and Barbara (Baryla) Wasyliszyn. She married Wallace Kuiawa on Aug. 27, 1935, in Altoona, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1998.
Surviving are a daughter, Joanne I. Brown of Altoona; a son, David W. (Bonnie) of Bellwood; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Olkowski of Garden City , Mich.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances; four brothers: Stanley, Joseph, Ben and Paul; and a son-in-law, Wilson R. Brown.
Gladys was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and prior to that, she had been a member of SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, where she had enjoyed helping with all the church functions. She enjoyed baking and cooking.
Friends will be received from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5514 Roselawn Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. by Father Brian Saylor. Committal will be at SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent for Mass intentions for Gladys to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church or SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery Endowment, c/o Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 2010 12th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
