John Frank Horon, 76, Hollidaysburg, died Saturday morning at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late John and Helen (Babiak) Horon. On Sept. 4, 1971, he married Sally J. Wysocki at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Altoona.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Sally; a daughter, Jacqueline Marasco and husband, MJ; two sons, John Horon and fiancée, Lori Myers, and Cory Horon; four grandchildren: Jake and Emma Marasco and Marcus and Cheyenne Myers; three great-grandchildren: Kinsely, Owen and Roman Myers; a sister, Donna Harkless and husband, Ken; a brother, Bob and wife, Kathy; a special cousin, Mike and Holly Bianconi; a sister-in-law, Christine Hoenstine; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his in-laws, Joe and Sally Wysocki; and his brother-in-law, Chuck Hoenstine.
John was a 1966 graduate of Altoona High School and received a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a major in accounting from Penn State. He did his internship for Ernst & Ernst National CPA in Pittsburgh from then he was an accountant at Warnaco. Later he was an accountant and vice president of Lee Industries until his retirement in 2010.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from June 1971 to June 5, 1973. While in the military he took courses at Fort Ben Harrison, Indiana. In 1972, he worked as an accounting officer in Thailand and then a finance officer for SEATO Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. From September, 1972 to June, 1973, he was a finance service officer at Fort Bragg.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Altoona.
John loved his vacations and spending time during winter months in St. Croix and Fort Myers. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona. Divine Liturgy outside of Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday by Deacon Chris Bellock . Private committal will be held at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Central PA Humane Society, 1837 East Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602.
