Joseph A. Ronan Jr.

Joseph A. Ronan, Jr. age 74, of Altoona, died Friday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Bons-Secour Campus. Born in Altoona, PA., he was the son of the late Dr. Joseph A. and Margaret M. (Bonner) Ronan. He married Nancy G. LaBriola on June 28, 1958 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Nancy, his children: Deborah Lyn Fisher and husband Robert of Altoona, Joseph Anthony III and wife Janet of Pittstown, NJ, Lisa Dawn Funari and husband A. Paul of Alpharetta, GA, Dr. Dana Marie Mignogna and husband Dr. Matthew of Fountainville, grandchildren: Ashley Dawn Stout and husband Philip, Andrew David Funari, Michael Patrick Ronan, Catherine An Ronan, Samantha Ann Mignogna, Madison Olivia Mignogna and Isabella Grace Mignogna. He was also survived by two sisters: Rosemary Ronan and Patricia Ronan both of Altoona, and one brother: Rev. Eugene Ronan, M.S.F. of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish New Braunfels, Texas. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Ronan. He was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Altoona High School class of 1953, attended St. Francis College and the Virginia Military Institute. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Ronan was a member of the American Legion Post,Wormleysburg. He retired as a captain for City of Altoona Fire Department, also a member and prior officer of the Altoona Retired Firefighters Association. Joseph was and avid reader, Civil War buff, Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and enjoyed trips to Big Meadows, Virginia. Friends will be received Monday, May 17, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home, Inc., 1204 - 17th Street, Altoona. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 10:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, by Father Brian Saylor. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association (www.americanheart.org)at 501 Howard Avenue Altoona, PA 16601-4810
