Joseph F. Trout, 71, of Altoona, passed away Wednesday morning at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by his family. Joe was born in Altoona, son of the late Benjamin F. Jr. and Mary P. (Schell) Trout.
Joe married Margaret K. “Peggy” Benton on June 18, 1977, at Ss. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret “Peggy”; a son, Dr. Colin J. Trout (Kailey); and step grandson, Jackson Thiel. Also surviving are other family members; and best friends, Tony and Phyllis Russo.
Joe was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Stanislaus Kostka Brotherhood.
He loved to listen to a variety of music, was an avid reader, movie enthusiast and a devoted Penn State and Steelers football fan.
Graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School, class of 1971, and of Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts as a social worker.
Joe retired on Dec. 1, 2014, after 40 years of service as a Behavior Health Counselor at Altoona Hospital.
Friends will be received from 10:15 to 10:50 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sixth Ave. and 20th St., Altoona, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Father L'ubomír J. Strecok officiating. Inurnment will take place at Ss. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery.
