Leona M. Ammerman
August 3, 1918 - September 22, 2009
Mrs. Leona M. Ammerman age 91, of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg Formerly of Pine Ave and the Fifth Ward Altoona died Tuesday at Manor.
Born in Altoona, PA., she was the daughter of the late Wolfgang Breit and Louise E. (Beck). She married Carl S. Ammerman on October 4, 1940 in Altoona. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1989.
Survived by one daughter: Linda Mahoney and husband Jim of Roaring Spring, one son: Carl L. Ammerman of Flushing, Michigan;
grandchildren, Jim Mahoney and wife Stacey of Roaring Spring; Jamie Walters and husband Scott of Etters, Denise M. Witucki of Grand Blanc, Michigan; Carl J. Ammerman and wife Beth of Flushing, Michigan; Debra A. Asbury and husband Bill of Flanders, NJ. 10 Great Grandchildren. A special Nephew Gene McCready and wife Dana of Avon, Ohio.
Leona was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (formerly St. Leo the Great Catholic Church) and the Altar and Rosary Society. She also belonged to the auxiliary of the United Transportation Union, and auxiliary of the Bavarian Aide Society. Mrs. Ammerman was a waitress at the Gables Dept. Store restaurant.
Graduate of Altoona High School Class of 1937
She loved spending time with her family, Kids, Grandkids, and Great Grandkids.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 pm Friday at the Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc. 1204 - 17th St. Altoona, Pa, where a vigil for the deceased will be at 6 pm Friday, and from 9:30 am to 9:55 am at the church on Saturday. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, 825 Williams Street Roaring Spring, Pa. By Rev. Msgr. William E. Shultz,
