Louis R. "Louie" Mangiacarne, 72, Altoona, passed away Monday evening at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, with his family at his side.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late David W. and Mary V. (Tomassetti) Mangiacarne. He married Myra J. Hoover on Sept. 17, 1960, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg.
Surviving are his wife; four daughters: Karen A. Price and husband, Brian, of Manassas Park, Va., and Kathy A. Stiteler, Kelley A. Morris and friend, Dan O'Rorke, and Kimberly A. Palmer and husband, Ron, all of Altoona; six grandchildren: Jesse S. Mangiacarne and girlfriend, Katie Boal, Laura A. Price, Brandon D. Morris, Justin L. Morris, Matthew G. Stiteler and Alyssa D. Stiteler; and his beloved dog, Walker.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia L. Nicolaus.
Louie was a 1956 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a retired salesman of health and beauty aid products. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, where he was an usher and Eucharistic minister and took care of the altars. He also belonged to the Bavarian Aid Society, Cesare Battisti Club and Buccinese Society.
Louie enjoyed playing bocce and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and a frequent flyer at Mikes' Court.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 8:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 12th Avenue and 20th Street, Altoona, by Father James D. Zatalava. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
