Mary A. "Laverne" Conway, 81, Altoona, died Wednesday afternoon at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Cyril F. and Rose M. (Bettwy) Reagan. She married Jack E. Conway Dec. 31, 1947, in Altoona. He preceded her in death Dec. 8, 1996.
Surviving are five daughters: Rose Marie Carpenter of Murray, Ky., Paulette Farabaugh and Patricia L. Smith, both of Altoona, and Peggy Hall and Judith Ann Pocklington, both of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a son, John of Cortland, N.Y.; three sons-in-law: Floyd, Robert and Edward; a daughter-in-law, Gale; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three brothers: Paul A. of Seminole, Fla., Louis J. of Greencastle and Frank M. of Palm Harbor, Fla.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph; a great-grandson, Matthias F. Ruby; two brothers: John C. and Joseph P.; and a sister, Helen Frank.
Laverne worked for Riverside Markets. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (formerly St. Leo the Great Catholic Church), the Blair Senior Center and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ashville VFW. She also attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Newry.
Laverne enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid bingo player and also enjoyed square dancing.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona (www.krishfuneralhome.com). A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 12th Avenue and 20th Street, Altoona, Monsignor Anthony Little officiating. Committal will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Coupon.
