Mary Eileen "Pinky" Olinyk, 89, Altoona, passed away Saturday evening at Amber Terrace at Altoona Center for Nursing Care.
She was born in Tyrone, daughter of the late Ronald and Isabelle (Maloney) Albright. She married Stanley Olinyk, who preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1994.
Surviving are a daughter, Tina Chestney and husband, John, of Altoona; a son, David Michael Olinyk of Altoona; two grandsons: Matthew and Brian and wife, Teressa, and their daughter, Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Eileen; a granddaughter, Adeline Chestney; a brother, Ronald; and her stepfather, Charles Biddle.
Mary was a 1945 graduate of Tyrone High School, and a 1948 graduate of Jefferson Medical College as a registered nurse. She worked as a registered nurse at Jefferson Hospital, Altoona Hospital, ARC Daycare Center and the Blair County Mental Health Retardation Office.
Mary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata, Juniata Civic Association, Sweet Adelines, Juniata A.A.R.P. and a charter member of Blair County ARC. She was county manager of Special Olympics, a teacher of the Ecumenical Council of Altoona (Blair County) and a troop mother for Girl Scouts in Juniata. She helped to improve special education in Altoona and bring Skills of Pennsylvania to Altoona.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, followed by a 5 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Elizabeth Hess officiating. Private interment will be at Grandview Cemetery, Tyrone.
