Matthew S. Jaroneski, 75, Canton, Ohio, passed away Sunday at Mercy Medical Center, Canton.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Matthew and Kathryn (Dzwonkowski) Jaronieski.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Betty Jane (Francis); five children: Matthew, Kathryn, Karen, Frank and David; five grandchildren: Margaret and Madeline Sanderford, Meredith and Miranda Jaroneski and Ziggy Jaroneski; and two brothers: Eugene Jaron and wife, Ann (Kuhn), and Joseph Jaronieski and wife, Anne (Benton).
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanine Jaronieski.
Matt was a graduate of Altoona Business College and served as hospital administrator of the former Doctor's Hospital in Massillon, Ohio, for 20 years. He then owned and operated Mellet Plaza Laundromat for 14 years. He served as treasurer of the Ohio Osteopathic Hospital Association for many years and served on the boards of Stark Technical College and the Urban League of Massillon.
Matt enjoyed golfing at Challenge Golf Course in Akron, Ohio, playing cards with his friends and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and quick wit.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to the 1 p.m. funeral Mass today at Christ the Servant Parish at Our Lady of Peace Church, Canton, Ohio, Monsignor Lewis F. Gaetano as celebrant. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011, at SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, 17th Avenue and 23rd Street (Westfall Ball Park area), Altoona, by Father James Coveney.
