Robert Glenn Stitt Sr.

December 30, 1924 — July 23, 2010

Robert Glenn Stitt Sr., 85, of Altoona, died Friday morning at Valley View Haven, Belleville. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Amos and Margaret (Schach) Stitt, and stepfather, Floyd Reardon. He married Betty Louise Hoffman on February 13, 1950 at First Methodist Church, Winchester, Va. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2004. Surviving are one daughter, Karen Louise Wheeler and husband, Craig of Lewistown; one son, Robert Stitt Jr. and wife, Sharon of Stanley, N.M.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great- grandchildren and two step-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lynn and a brother, Gerald Stitt. Mr. Stitt was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Penn State University. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving with the 896 Signal Service Depot Company. He retired from Conrail in 1987 as an electrician/general foreman. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Altoona, where he was a Sunday school teacher and in the past years attended the Lighthouse Independent Baptist Church. Bob was a member of the Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry; The Hiram Lodge No. 616 F.A.M.; the International Association Legion of Honor; member and past secretary of the Jaffa Railroaders Club and The Scotch Rite; past Scout Leader for Troop 1 where he served as a scout leader for over 15 years; life member of the PSU Alumni Association and member of the AAHS Alumni Association and the National Rifleman's Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, oil painting, working on his computer, watching DVD's and listening to talk radio. Bob will be remembered for his one- eyed Simpson stories at scout camps and for his quick wit and ability to make everyone smile. No matter where Bob went, he could always make a friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Jeff A. Hite. A graveside service will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the Lighthouse Independent Baptist Church, 524 24th Ave Altoona, PA 16601 or to Valley View Haven, 4702 East Main St., Belleville, PA 17004.
