Walter J. Bacza, 98, Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone, died Thursday morning at Colonial Courtyard.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Anthony P. and the late Stella (Deminska) Bacza. He married Helen Moryken on on May 11, 1940, at St. Mary Ukrainian Church. She preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 2000.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan Wisdom, of Naples, Fla.; three sons: James R. (Linda) Bacza and Anthony Bacza, both of Altoona, and Ronald (Helen) Bacza of Joliet, Ill.; seven grandchildren: Jeffrey (Cathy) Graham, Richard (Cindy) Graham, Ronald Bacza, Robert Bacza, Jason Bacza, Faith (James) Ryan, and Jamie (Darci) Bacza; nine great-grandchildren: Cloe Bacza, Sadie Bacza, Cheyenne Graham, Phoenix Graham, Emma Bacza, Kati Bacza, Joshua Graham, Lucian Ryan, and Iris Ryan; and his extended family at the Colonial Court Yard at Tyrone.
He was predeceased by seven siblings: Paul, Josephine Eckenrode, Helene Portnoy, Cecelia Novick, Antoinette Dodson, John Bacza and Alice Highduch.
Walter served in the U.S. Army during WWII, as a postal clerk in England. He was a baker for A & P, retiring in 1972.
Walter enjoyed gardening and fishing and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, where an 11 a.m. funeral service will be held by Father Andrew Clarke. Committal will be at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
