Walter M. Garlick, 81, Altoona, died Monday evening at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Walter and Mary E. (Green) Garlick. He married Loretta M. Price on June 23, 1956, in Altoona, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2009.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen D. Poorman and husband, Bobby, of Altoona; a grandson, Sgt. Jason Poorman with the U.S. Army and wife, Brittany, of Fort Hood, Texas, and their children, Carter and Natalie; a granddaughter, Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Mindy Rivello with the U.S. Coast Guard and husband, Matthew, of Cape Cod, Mass.; six sisters: Jane Ferry, Mary Settle, Gladys Caldwell, Janet Berkheimer, Carol Ann Rhodes and Ruth Ramsey; and a brother, Raymond E.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Jean Wood, Lavella “Dolly” Raihl and June Dell.
Walt served as a specialist fourth class with the U.S. Army. He was an insurance agent for American General Life Insurance Co., and prior to that he was a baker for Holsum and Marhofer Bakery.
Walt enjoyed hunting, cars, baseball and football. He also enjoyed working at the Altoona Curve.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013 anfd Friday from 10;30 to 11 am at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, by Pastor John Townsend. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to First Grace Brethren Church, 2932 Maple Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
