Wilson R. "Brownie" Brown, 85, of Altoona died Saturday morning at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late William R. and Nellie (Tate) Brown. He was twice married: first to Mary Giblock, who preceded him in death; and then he married Joanne I. Kuiawa on May 3, 1958, in Altoona.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; two daughters: Denise Croft and husband, Joseph, of Hollidaysburg, Monica Rossi and her friend, Andy Epple, of Altoona; one son, Stephen T. Brown and wife, Katrina, of Altoona; six grandchildren: Erin Dixon and husband Frank, Ali Bernheimer and husband Mark, Emily Wagner and husband James 'Jimmy', Chris Brown, James Rossi and Julian Rossi; and three sisters: Kaye Brown of Altoona, Joyce Verillo of Levittown and Doris Wantz of Bellwood.
He was predeceased by his siblings: Gloria Brown, Patricia Mirabella, Sarah Stout, Audrey Walton and Arbis Fluke; and a son-in-law, Jim Rossi.
Brownie was a graduate of Altoona High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corp as a Private. during World War II.
Brownie was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
He had retired from Wolf Furniture Company where he was a salesman for many years.
At the request of the deceased, there will be only a private visitation. Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 9:50 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church, 5514 Roselawn Ave., Altoona. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church by Father Brian Saylor. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
